PENNSYLVANIA WINDOW TINT LAW ALLOWS THE FOLLOWING DARKNESS FOR CAR WINDOW TINTING

The darkness of tint is measured by (VLT%) Visible Light Transmission percentage. In Pennsylvania window tint law, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed to pass through the combination of film and the factory tint of the window. 

Window Tint Laws

Here is what is allowed in Pennsylvania window tint law:

Cars, Trucks and MPV *Note: MPV means Multi Passenger Vehicles which are Vans and SUVs
Windshield Window tint is NOT allowed on the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than a total of 70% light in. Transmission through glass.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than a total of 70% light in. Transmission through glass. *(MPVs allow any light transmission)
Rear Window Must allow more than a total of 70% light in. Transmission through glass. *(MPVs allow any light transmission)

 

HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE ON AUTO WINDOWS ACCORDING TO PENNSYLVANIA WINDOW TINT LAW?

Tinting film can contain metallic elements (silver mirror look) that help to reflect incoming light and reject the glare and heat generated by visible light.
Front Side Windows Not regulated by state law.
Back Side Windows Not regulated by state law.

 

OTHER PENNSYLVANIA RULES AND REGULATIONS

Restricted Colors No colors of tint are explicitly banned.
Side Mirrors Dual side mirrors are required if back window is tinted.
Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film do NOT need to certify the film they sell in the state.
Sticker Requirements The sticker to identify legal tinting is required between the film and glass on the rear side window.
Medical Exemption State allows medical exemptions for special tint. For more details about the specific terms of the exemption for window tinting, consult your state law.
