SOUTH DAKOTA WINDOW TINT LAW ALLOWS THE FOLLOWING DARKNESS FOR CAR WINDOW TINTING
The
darkness of tint is measured by (VLT%) Visible Light Transmission
percentage. In South Dakota window tint law, this percentage refers to
percentage of visible light allowed to pass through the combination of
film and the factory tint of the window.
Here is what is allowed in South Dakota window tint law:
Cars, Trucks and MPV *Note: MPV means Multi Passenger Vehicles which are Vans and SUVs

Windshield | Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line. |
Front Side Windows |
Must allow more than a total of 35% light in. Transmission through glass. |
Back Side Windows | Must allow more than a total of 20% light in. Transmission through glass. *(MPVs allow any light transmission) |
Rear Window | Must allow more than a total of 20% light in. Transmission through glass. *(MPVs allow any light transmission) |
HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE ON AUTO WINDOWS ACCORDING TO SOUTH DAKOTA WINDOW TINT LAW?
Tinting film can contain
metallic elements (silver mirror look) that help to reflect incoming
light and reject the glare and heat generated by visible light.
